Levels & Assessments

At Nexus, our classes follow a progressive curriculum designed to help you become a confident, well-rounded social dancer.
Rather than waiting for a new session to begin, you can start at the beginning of any month.

Each Level 1 and Level 2 curriculum is taught over 12 weeks and divided into three monthly modules. Each month begins with a review of the fundamentals before introducing a new module, giving new students a comfortable entry point while returning students continue progressing through the curriculum.  No matter when you start, you'll experience the complete curriculum.

Our goal is to help you become the kind of dancer who can confidently dance with anyone, anywhere—not simply memorize more patterns.
Why We Teach This Way
Many dance classes teach a new combo every week. While you'll learn lots of patterns, it's often difficult to build lasting confidence or understand how everything connects together.

At Nexus, every class builds on the last. Our progressive curriculum, (along with PRACTICE!), helps develop quality movement, partner connection, musicality, and technique so you don't just memorize steps—you become a confident social dancer.

Where do I start?

  • New to partner dancing? Start in Level 1.

  • If you have previous dance experience and aren't sure where you fit, schedule a complimentary 15-minute assessment and we'll help determine the best starting point.

How Do I Know When I'm Ready to Move Up?

  • Moving up isn't based on how long you've attended classes. It's based on demonstrating the skills needed to be successful at the next level.

You're ready for Level 2 when you can:

  • Maintain timing

  • Dance the core Level 1 figures comfortably

  • Maintain good partner connection

  • Lead or follow without constant coaching

  • Feel comfortable social dancing with classmates

You're ready for Level 3 when you can:

  • Dance Level 1 and Level 2 material fluidly

  • Combine figures without stopping to think

  • Adjust naturally to different partners

  • Recognize musical phrasing and adapt your dancing accordingly.

  • Prioritize connection over memorized patterns
