HOW WE FOUND OUR GRACE

A long and winding road...

Definition

nex·us

neksəs /

noun

  1. a connection or series of connections linking two or more things.

"the nexus between individuals or groups of people"

  • a connected group or series.

"a nexus of ideas"

  • the central and most important point or place.

"the nexus of all this activity was the disco"

My Why

I decided to open the studio because, especially after quarantine, I think it's critical to reconnect with each other in a meaningful and authentic way. I saw a need - something I wanted for myself that also coincides with a dream I've always had - to use art to help my community.  I want NEXUS to be a home -  a place for people to connect authentically, (#actuallyconnect), and to reap all the benefits dancing has to offer: Physical and mental health, reconnecting with yourself and others, regaining confidence and, most importantly, having FUN!

The (Deeper) Why

So, why is this important? Culturally, dance is how we have shared our stories, processed emotion, embodied our values, forged identities… worshipped.

It is a timeless tool for interpersonal communication that rises above language, logic or time.

Without connecting to others, we can’t rise to achieve our greatest good or the best that we can be. After more than a year of isolation, we need to reconnect with each other and use what we have learned during the pandemic to come together now as a community.

If NEXUS can be the, (well…NEXUS), for connection then maybe we can help the community grow stronger together.
