About the event

Join us for an unforgettable Belly Dance workshop as we indulge in the rhythms, melodies and movements from the Arab world. Embodying the feminine, this workshop will focus on hip work,  arm movements and graceful turns teaching you techniques that can be incorporated across dance genres.

Led by our expert instructor, Sandra Sarrouf, you will learn the art of isolations, undulations, and shimmies to slink your way across the dance floor, while at the same time being informed of the rich history and cultural significance of ‘Belly Dance’. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced dancer seeking to refine your techniques, our workshop will ignite your passion for this ancient art, leaving you feeling confident, graceful, and connected to the rhythmic pulse of your body.

Sandra creates a supportive and fun environment for all levels. You are sure to get your body moving, expand your dance vocabulary, smile and have a cultural experience.

Sandra Sarrouf has 30 plus years experience dancing, teaching, choreographing and performing internationally. She currently teaches in the Theatre and Dance Dept. at Cal Poly and was the director of the Cal Poly Arab Music Ensemble dancers for 10 years. Sandra is also an educator for diversity, inclusion and belonging to bridge differences across cultures. Having immigrated to the US from the Middle East at a young age, dance has been a lifeline to connect and share the rich cultural heritage of the Arab world. With her MA in Cultural Sustainability along with her career as traditional dance artist Sandra is passionate about respectfully sharing the long-standing tradition of music and dance with the community.
